This has drastically increased the gap between him and world’s second richest person Mr. Bill Gates, cofounder of Microsoft, to $18 billion. The rise in the wealth came through strong Mexican stock market, stronger Peso, successful mining and increasing real estate from his group “Grupo Carso”. Telmex, is fixed line telecom company has been merged into America Movil, which is the largest wireless provider inLatin America. He also has holdings in retailers of Saks and New York Times. The slim family stake in the wireless carrier holding accounts for about 62% of the total worth.

Apart from this, the foundation also pushing forward the development of AIDS vaccine and looking out for better tools to rate teacher performance. He is one of the members who pledged for “Giving Pledge” started by Bill Gates and about 99% of his fortune will be utilized through Gates Foundation. He is also a board member of trustees at GrinnellCollege.
